Fileplanet has announced a second phase of-beta for Star Trek: Online

Star Trek® Online is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game set in the Star Trek universe. Star Trek Online is currently in development for the PC. Game features will include customizable ships and characters from the Klingon Empire and United Federation of Planets, ground, space and shipboard gameplay and unique options for player-generated content.

From the initial screen shots the game looks very promising, pitting the player against familiar foes as well as newer enemies as well as some pretty impressive Ships. It will also feature comprehensive space and ground exploration that pts the player against a wider array of classes . The step into the MMORPG realm comes off of the heels of the success and popularity of the Star Trek film . This move will put Star Trek Online in direct competition with World of Warcraft, Eve Online and a variety of other contenders in the increasingly crowded MMO market. It will be interesting to see how Star Trek Online compare with the established competitors.
